On lack of sleep/exhaustion
Jul. 20th, 2005 10:18 amDamn, this schedule is killing me. Now that I'm working in Universal City I have to get up at 6am (more likely closer to 7 when my alarm finally turns itself OFF, which is what finally got me up this morning), try to leave by around 8-8:30 to get in to work. Then I work a full day, and Monday-Thursday I head straight to Santa Monica College for Calculus 2 (and usually just make it) and sit in class until 9:15pm. By the time I get home it's 9:30 and if I wanted 8 hours of sleep (a bare minimum since I really need even more than that) I'd have to get to sleep within 1/2 hour of getting home. Not gonna happen:P. I have to eat (usually watching a TV episode since I DO need to relax sometime), talk to my roommate, etc, and usually collapse from exhaustion sometime around midnight. The 6 hours sleep a night is building up, too, so it gets progressively worse as the week goes on. And people wonder why I haven't been updating Rockers Online?
I'm also drinking so much soda just to stay awake that it's doing nasty things to my stomach. On average every day during the week I'm having 1 24oz bottle of Mountain Dew (half at class and half the next morning to wake up), 3-4 cans of Dr. Pepper, another soda at lunch, and a Mug Root Beer when I get home (to at least not have caffeine. I would have had water last night but we need a new filter for the pitcher and didn't have any cold water. I did put some in the refrigerator last night so I can switch to water tonight at least!).
The good news is, I have 3 1/2 weeks left in the class (I'm finally past the halfway point) and I really like working here, so I'm under a lot less work-related stress than I was at the last place.
So why am I doing this? Santa Monica College: $26 a credit. USC: Over $1000 a credit. Plus, I want to get the math out of the way so I never have to deal with it again as soon as possible. I always did well in math, but always hated it. The only part I ever liked was the geometry because I liked the proofs. I always loved logic. But I hate algebra/dealing with numbers. Although I can logically see how some people could see it as fun, all it does is give me a headache. I just want to get to the 3d math (vectors and matrices) that I'd need for game programming.
Next summer I'll probably wind up taking Spanish 3 at a community college to get it out of the way. I can't take it at USC now without retaking the placement exam, since it's been a year since I took that. At least I'll have plenty of time to listen to "Learn in your Car Spanish" and brush up on it.
Well, I think I'm going to go find the place where they keep snacks here (I just found out about it yesterday) and grab a cup o' noodles since I didn't have breakfast.
