Well, since it looks like another really slow day here at work and I have been meaning to post here for a long time, so I might as well post an update on some of what's been going on with me (besides, it's cheaper than the surfing half.com/Amazon.com marketplace I did LAST week when it was slow;).)

The really big news is the school situation. Unfortunately I won't be going to UCLA for a Masters this fall (I finally took the Computer Science GRE practice test and the results were pretty embarrassing:(. I just don't have the math background for that right now, so I had to cancel the test). But I went to an IGDA meeting over at USC a few weeks ago and talked to someone over there and found out USC WILL allow people to go for a second bachelors as long as they take at least 64 units there. The only problem is the $28,000/year tuition, so I'd need to apply to every scholarship in existence, but USC is one of the top Computer Science schools in the country, and if I get in I will do whatever it takes to be able to go there. The classes are during the day too, so unless they can be REALLY flexible about my hours here I may be going back to school full time and working part time or contract. Well, I've wanted out of this place for a long time now anyway;).

I also did some more research and found a few backup schools that also allow second bachelors, but at least I have time to apply to those (I need to apply to USC by Feb. 2), so I can wait and see how the USC situation turns out first. But one way or another at this point I'm determined to go back for my Computer Science bachelors. In this crappy job market it's too hard to get taken seriously as a programmer without it, especially when you have the dreaded 'web developer' label on your resume. Way too many incompetents who should NEVER have been allowed near a computer ruined the reputation of everyone in the field. *sigh*

At least when talking to [livejournal.com profile] chythar during lunch yesterday I FINALLY came up with a topic for the essay on the USC application which has been holding me up for at least a couple of weeks, so I should finally make some progress on that front this weekend.

In other news it looks like my plans to go to NY at the end of March for Lunacon and I-Con fell through, because the Game Developer's Conference turned out to be the same week. Considering the fact that I'm trying to get into games, the networking for that is probably more important. I may take 2 weeks around Worldcon (since that's in Boston anyway) and go to NY then.

Also, I don't think I mentioned here that I got to see Symphony X again when they were here a couple of months ago, and got to show off my custom plates;). They definitely appreciated them!
