I hate mondays
Nov. 24th, 2003 05:02 pmYawn! Mornings are nasty. Especially mondays, which are 13 hour days for me right now (work followed by class from 5:10 to 10pm. Not fun.). Especially when I wind up being up late sunday night. Last night I was dealing with computer problems that pretty much consumed most of my weekend.
The past few days seem to be hard drive problems days. The end of last week my server suddenly stopped booting, saying it was a HD master failure. Friday night I spent a long time working on it, trying to figure out what was wrong. I got it to boot a couple of times and could see both the hard drives that could have been the problem, so it doesn't seem to be them. I also tried 3 different cables but it still wouldn't work. It was very strange. I would occassionally get it to work but as soon as I tried rebooting, even though I didn't change a damn thing, it wouldn't work again. I finally came to the conclusion that I needed a new motherboard. My roommate also thought it was weird, and he wasn't sure it was the motherboard but couldn't come up with any other ideas (and he's the one who put that machine together in the first place)
So saturday we went to Fry's in Burbank (we figured that way we could stop off in Hollywood and get Symphony X tickets for next week. Just my luck they had a sold out show that night and the box office was closed:P). I picked up a new motherboard combo with a 2.66ghtz cpu and 512mb ram. We also got a couple of hard drives, one of which was SUPPOSED to be mine but my roommate stuck it in his machine when I wasn't looking:P. I guess I'm going to Fry's during lunch today!
Last night after I finished off a couple of things I needed to get done first I started the musical computers. My main machine was only 1.1ghtz so I put the new motherboard in that one. The 1.1ghtz one will wind up in the server. I got everything in and what do you know? It wasn't detecting the hard drive! My roommate finally got it working for me at least, so the machine is up and running, but I still have some things to work out with it. But it's going to be really nice to have a much faster machine!
The next step is to put the other motherboard in the server. I just hope that DOES fix it, since it is still possible that one of those hard drives is bad:(. If it is I hope it's just the boot dirve, since it's a tiny 10gig and all that's on there is the OS. The other drive has a lot of files I need.
Well, I managed to get some things done despite the computer problems, but I STILL haven't been able to take the sample Computer Science GRE. I'm taking it December 13, so I don't have much time to study.
Yep. Mondays aren't fun. I totally forgot about posting this until now and I'm already going to be late for my class. *sigh*
