Well, I finally installed the new AvantGo beta that actually works with Palm OS 5, so I'm trying out posting from my new Sony Clie NX70V. So I have a new way to post (which hopefully means I'll post more). So lets see how this works...
Hi. I was wondering will a Apple or Mac operating system run on a Compaq presario? it had windows 95 on it now but i was wanting to try a apple computer but have 3 windows computers so didn't wanna buy a new apple yet. and if it would run after i deleted the windows 95 would i have to ree format it with a apple or Mac fdisk instead of the one i have for DOS i used when i ree formatted the Compaq to ree put win 95 on it. i was thinking regular fdisk may format it for dos and windows but i don't really know for sure how that works. i used my old ibm dos 4.0 fdisk to reformat the Compaq to put win 95 back on it to get a fresh blank disk instal.i did The same thing when i put win 311 on my ps1 ibm that had ibm dos 4.0 now it has mdos 622 and win 311. The hard drive was too small to put windows 95 on it. I would just by a aplle or mac computer already made to run aplle stuff but i have 3 computers and can't really aford to buy any more good ones at this time.but if i could make the ibm or the compac an run aplle so i could have the same system as a apple it would be like having an aplle computer. I saw something where you can run windows stuff on a apple but i havn't found stuff to run the aplle computer os on windoes so i'm guessing id have to compleatly uninsall win95 and instal the aplle os on it. i have a external hardware modem i use on that computer thats 56k case the bult in mopdem on the compac is only 36600 and the 56k runs a biut faster and it runs other operating systems so may be ok with the aplle os which im guessing wont run on the compacs built in modem cause its a win modem. i found out its a win modem when i put BEos on the compac. it was kinda nice till i tryed to go on the net and it said i had no modem. it couldnt see the modem built into it. but the hardware external one works with beos.
Hi! Sorry, I don't think that's possible. Mac OS is only made to run on Mac or Power PC hardware, not Intel/PC. To run it on a PC someone would have to rewrite Mac OS to run on it. Of course if Apple did that they'd probably lose a lot of their hardware business, since pc hardware is cheaper for the equivalent power;).
You can check the web but I've never heard of anyone getting Mac OS to run on a PC. OSX is Unix based so if it was possible at all I think that would be the only one that could be. You might want to look into a cheap used Mac, or you can rent them from some places. It may be a good idea to try it out first, since it's a different interface and you may not like it (I've hated the damn things for YEARS;).)
There are windows emulators to run Mac software if you just want to run a program and not the operating system. You can probably find those on Download.com (http://www.download.com).
