Well, I've been spending all day working on writing Spider Solitaire for Windows. It's the final project for my Windows Programming in C++ class and it's due wednesday (and I just started it today, busy procrastinator that I am. Although I DID do a lot of planning out in my head which is the most important part anyway). But I'm really getting somewhere and figured I'd post an update.

So far: I have 2 decks of cards (an array of 104 card objects) that get shuffled each time. The cards can draw themselves at any point on the screen I tell them to. Right now they just show the letters/numbers on the top left and lower right corners of the card, and instead of a picture of the suit it's "C'", "S", etc., but I can do the detail work to make it prettier later once it's functional. I did make it red or black depending on the suit. Oh, and depending on whether or not it's set visible it'll show the front of the card or the card back:). I also have a function that can tell if a card is clicked on and if it's set to covered (a card overlaps it) it's smart enough to only check the top of the card that would be showing:). Now I'm working on a class for the 10 stacks of cards. If things go well I might just have this done by wednesday after all:).

The way I'm doing this is working REALLY well. Rather than sitting down and coding as fast as possible, I'm sitting down and thinking over exactly how to do everything, and I'm not writing a line of code until I have things pretty well worked out in my head. And you know, I really haven't run into very many bugs, and most of them have been pretty simple fixes. Maybe I'll actually make it in game programming one of these days after all!;) Now if I can just fix my embarrassing lack of math skills (but that's my own fault for avoiding it entirely as soon as I got out of high school). But I'm working on that too:)

Damn, programming is FUN!
