Well, I wasn't doing too well this morning (grumbling about roommates who convince you to play WoW when all you really wanted to do was get some studying done and go to sleep early) until I checked my USC e-mail. Apparently I won a scholarship, the Bartlett award! It's only $2500 for the year (a drop in the bucket at USC) but it's still really good news!

Wow, congrats.

I remember when I was surprised with a scholarship from my high school for $800 to spend if I attended college (which I did - DeVry Institute in City of Industry, '85-'89), and although at the time I thought that $800 was a load of cash, I soon realized that it only paid my first two months rent at the dorm.

Still... it did help, and it was a welcome surprise.

Thanks! Yeah, even if it's not much it still helps! It especially helps since I don't qualify for any financial aid other than loans because this is a second bachelors.

Woo-hoo!!!!!

Congratulations!!!

As you say, "a drop in the bucket" but, IIRC it should be in the neighborhood of a 10% drop and that's a nice chunk of change. :) Think how much less interest, alone, you'll be paying by not having to take out loans for that much.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Thanks! Yeah, tuition is about $30,000 for the year, so it is close to 10%! That is definitely going to help! My mother told me she'd lend me the money for this year so I wouldn't have to worry about interest (I have so many loans already I completely ran out of Stafford loan money) but the less I have to borrow from her the better!:)

I guess that 4.0 GPA from the fall paid off! I'm just glad this summer class is at Santa Monica College and won't go on my USC transcript, since at this point I think I'll be really lucky if I get a B.
