O.K. Whose bright idea was it at Adobe to outsource all their programming? I was working in ImageReady CS and when trying to rename a layer the entire program decided to go *POOF!* and vanish along with all my work. This is the 2nd time this has happened so it's definitely a bug. Damn, I hope they don't ruin all the Macromedia products the same way now! You get what you pay for, and when it's your MAIN PRODUCT it is INCREDIBLY stupid to ruin it by being cheap. It's no longer worth paying $200 to upgrade to an inferior, buggy-as-hell product with a few new features.

Fortunately I had recently saved the main image I was working on but I'd started a new image that I'll have to start over now. Not THAT big a time loss but still frustrating.

You mean it ever was?

I tend to work a version or three behind in all the software I use, because it's stable and almost never lacking critical features. (One exception: Corel Draw. I have two machines, one loaded with v12 (current) and one with v11, because each drives me nuts in different ways. But it's worlds beyond Freehand, and the only excuse for Illustrator's existence is that it permits pasting vector paths into Photoshop.)

But then, I do office-based production for work and fine art for myself, and have no need to be cutting edge, latest-greatest versioned.

Yeah, it really isn't worth it. I bought Photoshop 4 academic years ago and actually bought the upgrade versions of 5, 5.5, and 6. After that I didn't upgrade for financial reasons, and now I'm glad I didn't. I certainly won't be giving them any more money unless I hear they've seriously improved it. I think the only reason I've upgraded normally was to be able to say I know the latest version on my resume, although I've been using Photoshop so long I don't think it really matters anymore. I'm using CS at work now, and I'm definitely not impressed. I finally got fed up after it crashed a few more times and sent Adobe a bug report. They don't even have any updates available on their website.

The older programs do tend to be a lot more stable:). I mainly use these for web development/cutting up images so I've never gotten into the really advanced features anyway.
