Posting from Lunacon
Mar. 22nd, 2003 06:50 pmWell, it's been a busy past few weeks. I was sick for a week last week and then I had my trip to NY. I'm now here sitting in the hallway at Lunacon using the wifi connection, but getting here has not been good. Yesterday I flew out here, and my connecting flight from Atlanta to Islip got cancelled because of equipment problems. They transferred me to a flight an hour later to Laguardia but unfortunately my luggage didn't make it (my parents said they were delivering it to their house today, so it should be there by the time I get home).
Then I checked my e-mail to some devastating news. An old friend of mine died last night of a massive asthma attack. I was looking forward to seeing him at I-Con, but now I guess I won't. Ironically I found most of my information on LiveJournal, here and here. I haven't seen him much over the past few years because I'm on the other side of the country and because of an ex-boyfriend who can't deal with the fact that I moved on and got on with my life, but Jeff was still my friend and I was looking forward to seeing him at I-Con. I-Con is going to be weird now.
At least I've seen a lot of people I haven't seen in a while and spent a lot of time talking to them. I haven't gone to any panels but then that's not my main reason for coming here. And I only spent $8 on 2-3 books and I seriously doubt if I'll be spending any more in the dealer's room this con. This is a good thing:). A couple of t-shirts were tempting but they'll have to wait for another con sometime after I get rid of my car lease in a few months and get my credit card debt down more.
So this is definitely going to be a strange week. But at least I'll get to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a while, including a very good friend I haven't seen in YEARS.
