sharanWell, I already posted to the memorial page but I wanted to do at least a short post here. The night before last I decided to catch up on over a week's worth of my friends list here, and was glad to see posts from ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
dochyel about how well he was doing. Then the next morning I woke up to see in my e-mail that he'd had a massive heart attack and hadn't made it.
David was a great guy, one of the good ones. It's a damn shame and I can only imagine what his wife Alexandra must be going through. The loss hit me pretty hard. Now I have another reason to be sorry I wasn't able to make Lunacon this year, since I could have seen him one last time.
When I got home last night from work and finally had time to think about it I remembered one time at a con (I think a Worldcon) when I was trying to get into a SFWA party (I knew a lot of the people there, and it was before I decided it wasn't worth dealing with the snobbish attitude of some of them in cases like this). A former friend with was working at the party and decided to be a pain in the ass about me getting in, saying I had to be a member or a guest of one. David was there, and he came over and said "She's with me" and that ended that. I didn't even remember about that until last night, but it definitely reminded me of the type of person he was.
I haven't seen much of him since I moved out here in 1999, but I saw him a few times at cons, and I've kept up with what was going on with him through e-mail and here, and I never even posted in his LiveJournal to let him know I was watching it. I guess now he'll never know.:(
This also brings to mind another friend who went way too young not that long ago, who was also on here (caldesilk).
