O.K. already...
Jul. 5th, 2001 10:42 pmI keep waiting for the right time to post again and give a complete update but I'm always too tired or something so now I'm just going to do it already. It's official: I'm a Los Angelino (as I think my ex-roommate has been known to put it) again:). And this time I'm here to stay.
The trip down was hard, particularly on my poor cat. The first part of the trip was "Mew! Mew! Mew!" every 2 seconds. He got a little quieter after I took him for a walk on his leash at a rest area, but by then he'd made such a mess of the food, water, and litter I'd put in the carrier for him that he was soaking wet and disgusting. I think he was more miserable about that than anything else by the end, and I can't say I blame him.;) He scared the hell out of me for a while when he was opening his mouth and panting like a dog, but I put the air conditioner on full blast and opened the sun roof a little so the hot air could get out and eventually he calmed down. He seems to be recovering from the trip although he's not too happy with me when I leave him alone, and tends to yell at me when I get home from work. He's also made a new friend: a neighbor's cat keeps coming over and they sniff at each other through the screen door to the balcony area (I'm on the first floor). He puts his paw up to touch her face even. Eventually I'll let him out but I want them to get used to each other, especially when my friend's cat got out for 10 minutes and got into a fight with a neighbor's cat and cost him a lot of money in vet bills:(. One funny thing: my cat looks a LOT like my ex-roommate's cat Larry who died over a year ago:(. Well, this cat is a Tortoiseshell just like her other cat (still around) Tunie, only MUCH bigger.:)
Now, the apartment. Damn, I love this place. It's SO huge. I've had to go out and buy a bed and I've ordered 6 bookcases for my books (hopefully with room to expand) and I still should have tons of room:). It's got everything I could really need, and I love looking outside and seeing the pool/jacuzzi. Yesterday for July 4 I went out and used the pool, the jacuzzi, the gym, and then the bbqs outside:). There are usually people hanging out by the pool, especially on weekends. One woman told me the guy before me always kept the shades closed and they never saw him. I can't understand that. Why live at a place like this and not take advantage of it?
Work is working out well too. It's been pretty slow but I've gotten a few things to work on. A couple of days after I started my boss told me he wants us both to go for training nearby to get the Sun Java certification!:) So I'll finally really be able to learn Java, which is what I really wanted!:) It's also nice that coming in late seems to be typical there (I've beaten my boss in most days;).). Considering my history of lateness this is a relief;). I always make up the time, so a place like this works really well for me:). Oh, and my boss wears t-shirts and shorts every day, so I can get by wearing jeans every day like I did before:).
Oh, and I have a cable modem now! (YAY!) Other than a mess where I wasted over 3 hours on hold with AT&T a couple of days ago when I tried to get my router/firewall setup and my whole connection got screwed up it's been great:).
Well, maybe now that that's posted I can get back to writing smaller posts when I feel like it;).
