Well, I'm on the plane now on my way back from Worldcon. I already watched a few hours worth of video on my laptop (damn, I love this thing!) and decided to take a break and try to do some writing to post later. I went to a really good panel on Creativity on Demand with [livejournal.com profile] kradical and a few others on it, and it really got me to want to start writing again. So I've decided that since the idea well seems to have run dry (I think I came up with ONE fiction idea since I put my writing on hold before I moved out to L.A. over 5 years ago, although ironically enough I did come up with a few game ideas) I should try to start by writing here on Livejournal. I'm hoping to try to do 1000 words a day, although with my schedule whether that will happen or no, who knows? But it's worth a try, and if I'm really lucky maybe I'll be able to write fiction again instead of just posting here:).

This really was a great Worldcon. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it too. The programming was great, and there were tons of people there I knew from a lot of different places. I even got to see an old friend of mine from Stonybrook, Gary, who I wasn't expecting to see. I didn't get to see other people as much as I would have liked and I completely missed a couple of people I was really hoping to see (like my cousin who I haven't seen in a long time, and Catherine Asaro, whose new book I deliberately held off on buying until I got there just so I could get it signed, which never happened. *sigh* I was also hoping to call another old friend in New York but it was so busy I never did manage to do that. Well, hopefully I'll make it back out to NY in March (fortunately Lunacon falls during spring break from USC) and see her and other people too!

I also bought a ton of books in the dealer's room (of course my books are already taking over most of the apartment, and my roommate still has to get HIS out of storage!). I got a bunch of new stuff, and I'm still filling in the gaps a certain ex-boyfriend of mine left by refusing to give any of mine back:P. I did manage to get at least some books signed, though.

I might try to do a day by day update on the entire con, but my schedule is packed away and I only have about 45 minutes of battery power left. But since our flight today didn't leave until 5:25pm my roommate and I and [livejournal.com profile] caldesilk went to the Museum of Science this morning to go to the Lord of the Rings Exhibition. That was very cool! It was interesting to see all the costumes and props (even the One Ring, in a very cool display). They really should sell a cd-rom with all those videos about how the movie was made, since it was impossible to watch them all. Afterward we went to the gift shop and I wound up buying the One Ring:). It's a very nice official sterling silver replica. It doesn't really go with my other rings, but I don't think I'll be wearing this one all the time anyway.

Hmm. Only halfway to the 1000 words and 35 minutes of battery power left. Fortunately we're supposed to get in to L.A. in a little over an hour so hopefully we're getting close! Well, one thing about this week was really eye opening... damn., Low battery warning just came on so I better save this.

O.K. Saved by the bell (or my roommate). He picked up an external battery which has a connector for my laptop so I'm back in business for a while. Well, as I was saying, this week was very eye opening. It was a busy week with a lot going on, but I still found the week to actually be incredibly relaxing. I deliberately avoided thinking about work, and the difference was incredible. I didn't realize just how stressed out I've been over this job for so long until the stress went away for a few days. Much as I need the money for this job, if they eventually get other people trained and decide they don't need me anymore it'll probably be a huge relief.

Well, we're starting our descent into L.A. so now I really do have to save and shut down. I still haven't hit 1000 words, but at least I'm coming pretty close. The fact that I'm writing at all is still a good thing! I just need to get in the habit of doing this more often! Meanwhile I can at least go back to reading Stupid White Men by Michael Moore until we land and go home to 3 kitty cats that should be very happy to see us (my roommate actually set up webcams so we could check on them from the con, so at least we know they're O.K.:)).

...the next day

Well, that didn't go up yesterday like I hoped, after the Shuttle From Hell home. I live 15 minutes from LAX. Well, my flight landed a little early (around 8:30pm) but I didn't get home until after 11:30:P. Not only did we have to wait around for a shuttle with room, but once we got on one they drove around LAX (in nasty traffic) for a really long time until every available seat had been filled. Then we drove all over the place with a driver who didn't know the area that well (so everyone was trying to get him to go to their place next) and it took at LEAST 2 hours to get home. The driver even ran 3 red lights on the way. I suspect we won't be using them again, especially since on the way to LAX the driver dropped my backpack with my laptop in it! Fortunately the laptop's fine, as you can tell:).

Well, I'd write more but I'm exhausted and have homework due for class tomorrow.
